We have worked with many translators, in over 25 languages, and
it would be difficult to include biographies of all, but we salute
them nonetheless! |
| Erendiz Atasu |
| The Other Side of the Mountain |
Erendiz Atasu is one of Turkey’s most
prominent writers. During her career as Professor of Pharmacognosy at
Ankara University, she wrote essays on feminism and collections of
short stories. The Other Side of the Mountain, her first novel, was
awarded the top literary prize in Turkey in 1996. Widely acclaimed,
this novel established her reputation as a writer of international
stature. She lives in Ankara, where she continues to write
prolifically. Elizabeth Maslen is a senior lecturer in the
School of English and Drama, Queen Mary and Westfield College,
University of London. She has translated novels from Polish and has
published academic works of her own. |

| Alison Boyle |

| Alison Boyle is a popular and respected children's book writer, editor and
consultant. She has a degree in English and Design as well as a
Postgraduate Diploma in Publishing. Not only has Alison written several
successful children's titles, she is also very active in her field and
regularly visits bookshops, libraries and schools to run literacy
workshops. |

| Vincent Brocvielle |

Vincent
Brocvielle is a young author whose first novel was published by
Hachette Litteratures in 2003 (a story about the relationship between a
boy and his grandmother). He trained for the publishing business and
works as an editor with musuems and publishing houses specialized in
art books. He was a contributor to the French weekly Nouvel Observateur
with a regular column called 'Breves de cantine' (Canteen's Gossip). He
also published a historical guide to plants and gardens, and he is now
working on his second novel. Vincent lives in Paris.

| Helen Cowcher’s books and paintings grow out of her interest in the natural world and especially from her desire to protect “wilderness and wildness”. The books’ detailed images come from Cowcher’s first-hand experience observing wildlife in diverse locations such as Africa, India and South America. Helen’s paintings have been exhibited in the City of London Broadgate Centre, The Barbican Centre, The National Theatre and the Natural History Museum. |

| Alain Crozon was born in Paris and studied at graphic design and art schools there. He works as an art teacher and designs for magazines, as well as creating children’s books.
Aurélie Lanchais was also born in Paris and now lives in Chateauroux, France with her two children. She studied art in Orleans and has designed toys and colouring books. |

Orhan has taught English in Turkey for over 20 years and has
developed and written language teaching materials since 1996. He is a
graduate of Istanbul's prestigious Bosphorous University. Orhan lives
in Istanbul, Turkey.

| Olivier Douzou and Phillipe Derrien are popular and celebrated creators of children’s books in France. Douzou is one of the founders of Editions du Rouergue. His unique style of illustration, mixing textures and graphics, has influenced children’s and other illustrators world-wide. Super H is the team’s first title in English. |

Fatih Erdogan is one of Turkey's most popular children's fiction writers,
with more than 40 titles published. He is also an experienced
children's editor and an acclaimed translator. He is the translator of
all of Milet's Turkish-English titles. Fatih is editor-in-chief of a
monthly children's literature magazine and founder of the Association
of Children's Books, the Turkish section of International Board on
Books for Young People (IBBY). He received his PhD from Istanbul
University and for many years was a lecturer on children's literature
at the University. |

| Verena Freisleben was born in 1968 in Grafenau, Germany. She first studied language in England, then a course on sociology in Germany was followed by training to become a nurse. Finally, Verena decided to change direction completely and retrained as an illustrator. Boing was published in 2000. |

| Füruzan |
| A Summer Full of Love |
| Füruzan is one of Turkey’s most popular and critically acclaimed writers, most well known for her short stories. She is highly regarded for her sensitive characterisations, often of the poor and of women and children, and of her depictions of Turkish immigrants abroad. Furuzan was born in Istanbul in 1935. Her works have been translated into German, Russian, Dutch, Swedish, Arabic and Persian.
Damian Croft was born in Preston, England in 1966. After a degree in music and several years working as a jazz musician in London, he went to work as an English teacher in Ankara, and it was there that he developed his lasting passion for Turkey. When not translating or teaching, Croft works as a writer of fiction. In 1996, he was one of the winners of the London short story competition, and in 2000 he was the overall winner of the Islamic writing competition. Croft now lives in Sicily. |
